Frequently Asked Questions

How do I set up an appointment?
When you call The Counseling Center of Ann Arbor, our office staff will ask you several preliminary questions.  We will need your contact information and insurance information as well as your reason for seeking an appointment. The center director will match you with a therapist.  The therapist will personally call you back to set up the appointment. You can also send an email by clicking here.

How long does it take to get an appointment?
Our target time for calling you back to set an appointment is twenty-four hours. The therapists' target time for the actual appointment date is two weeks or less.

Why do you need my insurance information before I make an appointment?

No one likes surprises especially when it comes to payment issues.  We need this information to research your benefits so that we can inform you of those benefits, to the best of our knowledge, before the first session.

What insurance carriers do you accept?
We accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance products including PPO, BCN and Blue Cross Complete.

I don’t have insurance. Can I still see a therapist?
Yes, of course.  Please call The Counseling Center of Ann Arbor for rates.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?
If you need to cancel (unforeseen circumstances do occur), please call ASAP. We prefer to have notice of cancellation at least 24 hours in advance of the appointment.

Can I request a specific therapist?
Yes, you can request a specific therapist. If you have any other specific requests or concerns, such as the gender of the therapist, be sure to mention them during your initial call.

What should I bring with me to my first appointment?
Please bring your insurance card. Be prepared to pay whatever co-pay your therapist has indicated. You may fill out documents we need in advance, found here. Or they can be completed at the time of the session.

How can I pay my co-pay?
We accept cash, check, credit/debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards as long as they have a Visa or MasterCard logo.

What if my insurance changes?
If your insurance information changes, please update it with the office staff immediately and as soon as you get your new card, bring it to your next appointment.
